Why is SSD recovery different?

SSD Data Recovery

An SSD is fundamentally different from a mechanical hard drive. Instead of magnetic platters and read/write heads, SSDs store information in NAND flash memory controlled by sophisticated firmware and a flash controller. The controller manages how the computer's logical data relates to the physical NAND memory, including functions such as wear leveling, bad-block management, error correction, and address translation. Consequently, SSD failure can present very differently from HDD failure.
